Western Bulk cautiously optimistic about 2020 despite market downturn

Dry bulk is off to a weak start in 2020, in which most recently the coronavirus has caused uncertainty in the market. Still, Western Bulk is "cautiously optimistic" for the coming year. The shipping company booked a deficit for 2019, when its Chilean business weighed down.

Ship operator Western Bulk is optimistic about 2020 even though the dry bulk sector is off to a difficult start, according to the company's annual report for 2019.

The report shows a red bottom line, with problems in the shipping company's Chilean business at the start of 2019 weighing down the result. In Chile, the shipping line said at the beginning of 2019 that a now-former employee had entered long-term and loss-making contracts.
