Orders for new shipbuildings go down — two segments stand out

While the number of box ships in shipyards’ order books plummeted in the first half of the year, the picture is different for two other ship types. These accounted for more than 50 percent of orders.

The shipping companies’ appetite for brand new vessels has continued to decline since it peaked in the fall of 2021 in the red-hot freight market of the corona pandemic.
