Bimco: Greek shipowners mad about bulk

The Greek shipowners have ditched tanker and container, but they are still happily buying new bulk vessels, according to Bimco.

The Greek shipowners' orders are focused on dry bulk rather than tanker or container. Greek shipowners have ordered a combined 91 bulk vessels in 2014, ten ships more than in 2012 as a whole.

"The interest is much centred on bulkers and has become more and more explicit over the past two years, whereas Greek buying interest in tankers and containerships is flat. The development gives insight into the minds of Greek owners and where they expect to see the biggest opportunities arise – sooner rather than later," says Peter Sand, Chief Analyst at Bimco, in an article on Bimco's website.
