Western Bulk CEO: 2014 was a five-year low

The major Norwegian dry bulk carrier Western Bulk can conclude that 2014 has been a big disappointment and represents the lowest point for the carrier since 2009, CEO Jens Ismar tells ShippingWatch. Now he is also forced to downgrade expectations for 2015.

2014 became a five-year low for the major Norwegian dry bulk carrier Western Bulk, and now the company is also forced to lower its expectations for next year, Western Bulk CEO Jens Ismar tells ShippingWatch.

The announcement is not surprising in an industry in November 2014 where most active players are already at this time able to conclude that the year - which was supposed to have helped the carriers soar - has instead brought significant challenges and deficits at some of the carriers that are otherwise know for keeping their heads above water even when others are struggling. But the Western Bulk CEO does not hesitate to curtail his hopes that next year might bring the fair winds that some carriers are starting to desperately need.
