New rules for dangerous bulk cargo will take years

It will take years for the dry bulk industry to get new rules for the transport of bauxite, a commodity which has for a long time been suspected of being a high-risk cargo. Bauxite, which is used when making aluminum and which is viewed as one of the most important and biggest cargoes in the international dry bulk industry, entered the agenda for real when vessel Bulk Jupiter, carrying bauxite, sank in January last year in a wreck that claimed the lives of 18 of 19 crew members on board.
