The dry bulk carriers lost billions again in 2016

An review of losses across several leading bulk carriers, carried out by Alphabulk, shows that the bulk crisis struck the industry hard again last year. The research firm has also put a figure on total accumulated losses since 2010 – and it is big.

Last year may have been better for the bulk carriers, which generally delivered improved results compared to 2015. But 2016, which entered the history books as a year in which the dry bulk index hit an all-time low, was not anything to celebrate for the strained industry which is challenged by massive overcapacity.
