Container carrier's customers have reaped huge savings

Shippers are currently attacking liner companies for introducing an emergency bunker surcharge. According to Alphaliner, however, the criticism overshadows the fact that actual freight rates have been cut in half over the past 20 years.

While the liner companies' customers, the shippers, are currently very upset about the box carriers' announced emergency bunker surcharge (BAF), attributed to the rising oil price, rate developments in the last 20 years indicate massive savings enjoyed by the shippers.
