North European container market weighed down by two countries

Container trade between North Europe and Asia hovered at largely the same level in the first half of 2018 as last year, a development primarily attributed to two large countries.

The first half of the year has been a disappointment for container carriers, notes Drewry in a new analysis of key routes between Asia and North Europe.

Container trade on the route sat at largely the same level in the first half of 2018 as in the same period of 2017 with approximately 4.9 million teu. Trade was somewhat weaker in the second quarter after positive trends in the first quarter.
