Maersk: New BAF is merely first step toward covering billion dollar 2020 costs

Maersk is the first liner company to launch a new bunker adjustment factor to cover parts of the billion dollar added costs set to arise from the upcoming global sulfur regulations, the carrier's head of trade management, Silvia Ding, tells ShippingWatch. Next step is important negotiations with customers.

As the first liner shipping company, Maersk Line has now unveiled one of the more crucial elements in the battle to regain the billions of dollars in added costs the shipowners face as they approach the upcoming global sulfur regulations set to come into force in 2020.
