Customers now have a window to voice their criticism of container carriers

Is the EU block exemption – which allows competing container carriers to collaborate – working as intended? Recently, several shippers have criticized the liner companies for lack of transparency and unfair bunker surcharges. The shipowners disagree. The parties now have three months to voice their case to the EU.

The Consortia Block Exemption Regulation that allows cooperation arrangements between competing liner shipping companies only applies for five years at a time, and it will therefore need to be renewed soon.
