ONE to charge fuel surcharge for Chinese ECA zones

The Japanese liner company will, starting next year, charge a fuel surcharge on routes calling in several major Chinese port regions, where China is set to establish emission control areas with a 0.5 percent sulfur cap.

Japan's Ocean Network Express, ONE, will charge a new bunker surcharge on routes from three of China's biggest ports as well as Taiwan starting at the turn of the year.

The shipping line will charge a USD 15 surcharge per container on routes from the Chinese ports to the rest of Asia, the US and Canada, says ONE in an update to its customers.
