Liner companies: Block Exemption has ensured lower rates

The container carriers continue their fight for an extension of the unique consortia block exemption regulation, which allows competing shipping lines to cooperate. In a letter to the EU Commission, the association lists four arguments in favor of the regulation.

Liner companies from across the world, gathered in the World Shipping Council, WSC, now once again call on the EU Commission to extend the so-called Block Exemption Regulation, BER, which allows for cooperation between container shipping lines that otherwise compete against each other.

The World Shipping Council has already been active and visible in its efforts to have EU Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager approve another five-year extension for the Block Exemption Regulation when it expires in April 2020.
