Suez Canal to be expanded following blockage chaos

The Suez Canal faces an expansion. Earlier this year, the Canal was the center of global attention when ultra-large container ship Ever Given blocked all passage through the waterway for nearly a week.

The important tradelane through the Suez Canal faces a planned expansion, explains the Canal's authority, SCA, approximately one and a half months after an enormous container ship blocked the canal for close to a week.

Reportedly, the canal authority mulled an expansion prior to the grounding of the 400-meter long container ship Ever Given on March 23. The subsequent chaos has, however, accelerated these plans.
