Container carriers plan for record capacity during peak season

Shipping lines' sailing schedules are testament to record high capacity during this year's peak season for container traffic, concludes Sea-Intelligence in a new analysis.

As the shipping sector approaches the peak season for container traffic in the third quarter, carriers plan to deploy record high capacity this year, according to an analysis from Sea-Intelligence.

Over the next 12 months, the analysis estimates, container carriers plan to deploy an additional approx. 100,000 teu, pushing the total offered capacity in the Pacific Ocean to a peak of 644,000 teu in the week starting on August 16.
