Price mechanism on container market has been turned on its head

Many companies buying freight services on long contracts are now paying a much higher price than on the spot market – an unprecedented development, says analyst.

Customers are typically given discounts for committing over longer periods. Usually, that is also the case for container freight, but a collapse in spot prices during recent months has suspended the otherwise stable mechanism.
