Maersk exec: Container mergers herald new era

The wave of mergers in the container industry means more focus on efficiency, and this will result in lower prices for customers, Vincent Clerc, Chief Trade & Marketing Officer at Maersk Line, tells Danish newspaper Berlingske.

Three major players in the container industry, and one slightly smaller player were combined last week into two very large players, and this could contribute to professionalizing the industry, Vincent Clerc, Chief Trade & Marketing Officer at Maersk Line, tells Danish newspaper Berlingske. He points to the idea that the mergers will thereby benefit the customers in ways such as lower prices.

"There are many signs that the dynamic that we've seen before - for instance in the aviation business with many mergers - will also benefit our industry. It will be good for the customers, because there will be a larger focus on efficiency and this will mean lower prices for the customers," he says in the interview.
