Habben Jansen after merger: Now the industry is finally moving

With UASC on board, the next step although likely not the last, has been taken towards consolidation of the industry, says CEO of Hapag-Lloyd, Rolf Habben Jansen, to ShippingWatch. The industry has finally begun the necessary work, states the Chief Exec of the German container carrier.

For the second time in two years, Rolf Habben Jansen can cross another item off of his to-do list in the German container carrier's strategy of acquisitions and merging with other industry players.

The approval Monday for the merger between Hapag-Lloyd and United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), giving rise to the world's fifth-largest container carrier, is the second deal to be carried out under leadership of Rolf Habben Jansen, since he took the Chief Executive position at the carrier in 2014. A few months after he took office the anticipated merger with Chilean CSAV was completed.
