Impairments hit Rickmers' Singapore business with big loss

Rickmers Maritime books a second quarter loss of USD 55.6 million. CEO Søren Andersen says in the financial statement that the company considers pulling 11 Panamax vessels out of service from the fleet of 16 when the ships are returned from charter.

German Rickmers' listed company in Singapore, which owns 16 container ships, has taken a big hit from the extremely low rates in the charter market.

Rickmers Maritime booked a net loss in the second quarter 2016 of USD 55.6 million, of which the largest part by far, USD 51 million, stems from impairments.
