New large-scale container merger in Asia could be imminent

Even though China's Cosco and Orient Overseas in Hong Kong reject whispers of an imminent merger worth around USD 4 billion, it is likely only a matter of time before a deal is settled, reports Drewry and others.

Speculations concerning a new and imminent acquisition among the Top 20 container carriers, which would see China's Cosco take over Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Lines (OOCL), have gained strength in recent days even though the parties this week rejected any ongoing negotiations.
