Shippers make demands on EU's alliance acceptance

Global shippers are demanding clear advantages for customers if container carriers are to continue enjoying exemption from competition rules after 2020, says Chris Welsh, Secretary General of the Global Shippers' Forum, in comments to ShippingWatch.

International shippers will recommend to the EU Competitions Commissioner Margrethe Vestager that she lift the special exemptions from competition legislation for container carriers, if the three new dominating alliances do not deliver clear benefits for the customers, says Chris Welsh, Secretary General of the Global Shippers' Forum, which represents many major companies and thus container carrier customers around the world.
