Euronav CEO downplays importance of tanker merger

The transaction is not revolutionary, says Euronav CEO Paddy Rodgers according to Clarksons Platou after the acquisition bid for Gener8 Maritime, which will create the world's biggest crude oil carrier.

"We have to be strong coming out of this transaction, finding a system that works for everybody," Euronav CEO Paddy Rodgers told broker and analyst Clarksons Platou after the news of the merger with Gener8 Maritime on Thursday, but adding that the does not view the transaction as revolutionary.

The merger will likely create the world's biggest crude oil tanker carrier.
