UK demands guarantees to release Iranian supertanker

A UK minister says the supertanker Grace 1 will be released if Iran guarantees that the ship is not headed for Syria.

A detained Iranian supertanker will be released if Tehran guarantees that the ship's crude oil cargo is not bound for Syria, UK Foreign Minister Jeremy Hunt told his Iranian counterpart Saturday during a telephone conversation, reports BBC.

The oil tanker, Grace 1, was boarded by British marine troops off the coast of Gibraltar due to suspicion that the fully loaded vessel would breach the EU's sanctions against Syria.
