139 LNG newbuilds set for delivery: "We've been slightly surprised by the number"

A large order book threatens to put a damper on LNG rates in the coming years. Greek shipowners in particular have ordered a large number of ships, new numbers show. The many orders came as a surprise to Flex LNG's CEO, he tells ShippingWatch.

Hopes for a new growth adventure in gas shipping have made the shipping companies order a plethora of new LNG tankers from the shipyards.

Ahead of 2023, a total of 139 LNG newbuilds are set for delivery, corresponding to close to 20 percent of the current fleet.
