Tanker companies only ordered 11 new ships this year

The price of newbuilds is sky-high, and tanker carriers have only ordered 11 new vessels this year. Low order activitiy will persist into 2024, says shipbroker.

Tanker shipping companies’ appetite for new ships is quite small at the moment – so small that they only ordered 11 new ships during the first two months of the year, and none of the newbuilds are for crude oil, writes shipbroker Simpson Spence Young in an update.
