Russian, Ukrainian seafarers work together at Essberger Tankers

80 seafarers with the German tanker carrier are Russian and Ukrainian nationals who sail together even though Russia has invaded Ukraine. ”They are old colleagues, and that has greater weight than their passports,” says CEO Jan Eghøj to ShippingWatch.

German-owned chemical tanker company Essberger Tankers has picked a side in the Ukraine crisis, condemning the Russian invasion of the country, but potential conflicts are absent from the carrier’s ships, which are crewed by both Ukrainian and Russian seafarers, says Chief Executive Jan Eghøj.
