Record-low number of new tanker vessel orders in H1

Tanker carriers have in the first half-year commissioned a record-low number of new tanker vessels despite increasing freight rates and an improved tanker market. But newbuild prices are also at the highest level since 2008, writes Bimco.

Even though the tanker market – especially within product tanker – is improving and freight rates increasing, tanker operators have not been very willing to sign contracts with the shipyards regarding new tanker vessels.
