Transatlantic activity is the primary source of growth for large supertankers

Growing US crude exports mean that VLCC tankers are sailing across the Atlantic Ocean with filled tanks, resulting in higher rates.

Very large crude carriers (VLCCs) continue to sail at increasing rates, especially on the Atlantic Ocean routes, writes brokerage firm Simpson Spence Young (SSY) in an update.
