Chinese shipbuilder Nantong Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co. had approximately two years to build the first ships in an order for a total four LPG/Ethylene vessels for Norwegian Odfjell, which in relation to the order in 2013 described the move as an important step in the company's long-term strategy to grow as a significant owner and operator in the gas sector.
But so far none of the 17,000 cubic meter vessels have been delivered from the Chinese yard, even though the contract had the ships set for delivery between October this year and May next year. And this is a serious delay, Odfjell CEO Kristian Mørch tells ShippingWatch - a delay that also applies to another four 22,000 cubic meter gas vessels, according to the carrier's interim report, published Wednesday. Kristian Mørch declines to go into further detail about the scope of the delays.
