Stena Bulk: Pressure from new vessels could strengthen tanker pool

Many new tankers will enter the market over the next 18 months. This is a cause for concern for several tanker shipowners, Stena Bulk CEO Erik Hånell tells ShippingWatch. He projects new partnerships in 2016.

In the coming years, Swedish tanker carrier Stena Bulk will likely welcome new partners, predicts CEO Erik Hånell in an interview with ShippingWatch. For many years, the carrier has had an ambition to increase the fleet of Suezmax vessels to 30 ships in the pool Stena Sonangol, a cooperation with state-owned Angolan oil company Sonangol. An ambition which has not been realized yet, but could very well succeed this year.
