Bimco: Tanker scrapping will quadruple this year

There has been major growth in the number of scrapped oil and product tanker vessels during 2017, but this is not likely to ease the pressure on the tanker market, writes Bimco in a new forecast.

The scrapping of tanker vessels is expected to increase dramatically this year, corresponding to four-fold growth compared to 2016. Yet the development is not likely to relieve pressure for the tanker sector in 2017 as rates and asset values will remain weak, writes maritime association Bimco in a new forecast published Monday.
