"Recent coverage of the InfluenceMap Report concerning industry influence at the IMO has overlooked the fact that there is no simple solution to carbon emissions from shipping. The InfluenceMap analysis assumes that criticism of a particular GHG proposal made at the IMO undermines overall progress in the Organization. To the contrary, solving a challenge as important as GHG emissions from international shipping requires open and frank discussion of many different ideas and approaches. That discussion and debate, including criticism and support of different proposals, are essential to reaching agreement on effective public policy."
