Shipowners warn of insufficient capacity on EU shipbreaking list

Danish Shipping has done the math on the EU's upcoming white list of approved shipbreakers. And at this point, there are not enough yards to handle the large commercial vessels, and there is a significant need for responsible shipbreaking facilities outside of the EU, executive director tells ShippingWatch.

The EU's upcoming list of yards that are approved for scrapping European vessels is inadequate, warns Danish Shipping.

The Danish shipowner association has made calculations using the list that takes force next year and calculations show that there will be a need for capacity to dismantle 2.5 million light displacement tons (ldt) per year.
