China expands sulfur zones across the entire coastline

China will expand its regulations for vessel sulfur emissions and is moving towards a similar system to European sulfur zones. This is a clear signal that China is striving for 100 percent compliance of the global sulfur regulations, says analyst.

From 2019, environmental zones in China will be extended across the entire country's coastline, the Chinese transport ministry announced recently. Wood Mackenzie adds that the 0.5 percent sulfur content of fuel will likely affect vessels which sail 12 nautical miles and under from the coast.
