Critical deadline reduced to footnote in IMO climate roadmap

While a roadmap to reduce the shipping industry's environmental impact emerged last week, a critical date could lose its significance following pressure from several interests. Now, it has been reduced to a footnote.

An IMO working group has last week agreed on a roadmap setting out how the shipping industry will over the short term meet its obligations concerning the important climate plan adopted in the Spring.

However, not everyone is satisfied in the group, where 200 people over the week gathered in the IMO in London to prepare a plan to be presented at the critical meeting of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) in this week.
