Asian shipowners are now testing low-sulfur bunker

According to Platts, several Asian shipowners have started testing a new fuel ahead of the upcoming sulfur regulations, which come into force in less than 14 months.

As January 2020 and the upcoming sulfur regulations draw nearer, several Asian carriers have started testing fuel with a low sulfur content in order to prepare for the new regulations, writes the media Platts based accounts from several unnamed sources.

"We have started buying 0.5 percent sulfur bunker fuel for testing in China and Singapore," the media cites a person from a North Asian carrier, while a source from an oil company says there has been an increase in inquiries about the fuel type from carriers.
