Map: This is where open-loop scrubbers are banned

China and Singapore are the latest of several countries and states to introduce bans against the use of open-loop scrubbers. According to Norwegian P&I Club, the list will only grow. See a map of where there are currently restrictions against the controversial systems.

The list of ports and countries which ban open-loop scrubbers in ports is growing. Most recently, the Chinese transport ministry announced a ban against the scrubber type – which releases wash water into the sea again – in all its port areas.

China is thus added to a long list of countries including Singapore, Norway and several US ports that have banned the technology, according to a study by Norwegian P&I Club Gard.
