Norwegian offshore carrier Remøy Shipping will use batteries to help reduce emissions and fuel consumption.

Before Christmas, the carrier had a three-year option period confirmed by oil and gas company Equinor for the carriers' platform supply vessels, and now the ships will have hybrid batteries installed, says the company in an update. 

Contracts for the ships were due to expire in the coming months but will now continue for three years. This creates a stable and solid basis to further develop the carrier in a demanding market, says CEO Karl-Johan Bakken in the press release.

"The contracts also give us an opportunity to further reduce fuel consumption and emissions bia the installation of battery packs across all three vessels. This will continue the carrier's fuel reduction efforts, where we have also carried out and implemented a digitalization project for fuel optimization across all vessel operations," he says.
