
Sulfur regulations rapidly approaching
Shipping companies across the world have for months been working intensively on preparations for the new IMO regulations that take effect from the turn of the year. The regulations mean that ships may only sail on fuel with sulfur content of maximum 0.5 percent. The previous limit was 3.5 percent. However, ships can keep sailing on fuel with sulfur content exceeding 0.5 percent if they are equipped with exhaust-cleaning technology, a so-called scrubber.
