Congestion is putting a strain on global supply chains at the moment and one of the dominant problems appears to be a shortage of empty containers to load onto ships. This development now has container line Hapag-Lloyd placing one of its biggest orders ever for new containers.
The order is for no less than 150,000 new twenty-foot (teu) standard dry and refrigerated boxes as well as 8,000 teu special containers. The order makes up a total investment of approximately USD 550 million, informs the company in an announcement Wednesday.
