Multipurpose rates continue to grow

Rates on multipurpose vessels continue their upswing, and even the coming Christmas and New Year's period will not curb their skyrocketing significantly, according to Toepfer. High demand and lack of tonnage drive developments.

Multipurpose (MPP) shipping companies are living through some golden days in a market with high demand and lack of ships, shows Toepfer's December index on multipurpose rates.

According to Toepfer, the average day rate for MPP vessels has increased to USD 18,973, up from USD 17,407 in November.
