US legislators want to tighten climate regulation for shipping

One of the proposals would impose a CO2 levy on freight ships that could raise USD 250bn to finance shipping’s green transition.

Two bills, demanding a marked reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from shipping vessels and requiring carriers to pay a CO2 levy, respectively, have been proposed in the US.
