Spot rate increases significantly outpace higher costs for carriers

The trip south of the Cape of Good Hope has caused operating costs for shipping companies to increase by around 50%, according to Alphaliner.

Freight rates for ships sailing south of Africa’s Cape of Good Hope now exceed the additional costs of the significantly longer journey, according to the analysis house Alphaliner.
