
The tank shipping companies are pleased with the decision of the IMO's environmetal committe (MEPC) last week to soften and postpone the requirements for when the ships will have to install ballast water cleaning systems.
In a statement from Intertanko, the association applauds that ships, as it now seems, won't have to install ballast water cleaning systems till their first docking after the rules have been implemented. Katharina Stanzel, Intertanko Managing Director, said the following:
