Panama Canal expansion postponed to 2016

The Panama Canal administrator confirms that the expanded canal will not be ready for use until January 2016, three months later than originally scheduled.

As was widely expected, the dispute between the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) and the Spanish-led entrepreneur consortium will impact the already delayed expansion of the Panama Canal. This was confirmed by ACP administrator Jorge Quijano at a press conference on Friday in Panama City, where he - according to Reuters - stated that the canal will resume commercial operations in 2016, some three months later than expected.
