Groupe Eurotunnel's CEO Jacques Gounon believes that the company's controversial ferry operator on the English Channel, MyFerrryLink, can reach break-even in the British Competition Commission lets the carrier keep operating.
MyFerryLink finished its first complete fiscal year with a EUR 22 million deficit. The ferry operator is in the midst of a brutal price war with, especially, DFDS, which has also lost a serious amount of money after Eurotunnel - by acquiring the remaining assets of bankrupt SeaFrance - started operating with three ferries on the Channel, parallel to the company's tunnel operations, thus securing a combined market position that was deemed too dominant by the British Competition Commission - and the Commission has thus barred Eurotunnel from operating ferries out of the Port of Dover.
