China considers new environmental requirements for shipping

A statement from China's Ministry for the Environment on Monday indicates that the country could be preparing new regulations for shipping as part of the authorities' efforts to reduce the massive pollution in the China.

The Chinese authorities could be gearing up to introduce new legislation and requirements for cleaner fuel in shipping, said the Chinese Ministry for the Environment in a statement on Monday, according to Reuters.

"Environmental pollution problems caused by shipping are becoming more evident," noted the ministry in a statement that falls in line with the growing public pressure on the government in Beijing to reduce the massive pollution in numerous places around China following years of growing industrial production in the country.
