Norwegian oil crisis has reached cooks and cleaners

The wave of firings experienced by the Norwegian offshore industry has now hit the companies in the platform catering sector. Oil service companies Sodexo and MHWirth are both axing employees.

The order drought in the Norwegian offshore sector is now also impacting the employees who provide catering services on the North Sea oil platforms.

The catering company Sodexo saw 50 employees dismissed just before the weekend as a direct result of their customers, oil companies, shutting down oil platforms in the North Sea, reports Norwegian daily Stavanger Aftenblad. Taking into account earlier redundancies, Sodexo has now laid off 140 employees, which corresponds to 20 percent of previous staff numbers. The latest layoffs primarily hit cooks and cleaning personnel.
