A merger of HMM and Hanjin is still on the table

The South Korean financial regulators are ready to consider a merger between Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) and Hanjin Shipping once the two carriers reach an agreement with their creditors. Hanjin is still negotiating with shipowners to reduce its charter rates.

A merger between Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) and Hanjin Shipping could come into play when the two carriers manage to get on top of their struggling businesses, said the Chairman of the Financial Services Commission (FSC) in South Korea, Lim Jong-Ryong, speaking at a press meeting Monday, according to Business Korea.
