Shipowners flat out reject scrapping fund

The proposal for a EU fund aimed at inciting shipowners to help pay for the responsible scrapping of EU-flagged vessels would undermine the IMO's efforts to secure better conditions at disputed scrapping yards, warn shipowners in a joint statement.

A proposal to create financial incentive for responsible and EU-approved scrapping with a so-called scrapping license is flat out rejected by shipowners in the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA).
