Debt-ridden Norwegian offshore carrier hopes to avoid Røkke

Norwegian offshore carrier Olympic Shipping is not interested in being bought by Kjell Inge Røkke and his Aker group, even though the carrier is heavily indebted. The traces after the Aker's acquisition of Rem Offshore are frightening, owner tells Norwegian newspaper.

The consolidation of the Norwegian offshore industry is in full swing after the low oil price has brought suppliers and carriers to their knees.

So far, affluent businessman Kjell Inge Røkke and his Aker Group have led the charge, most recently with the takeover of carrier Rem Offshore, while two other Norwegian businessmen, Kristian Siem and John Fredriksen, look similarly ready to make a move.
